| Is the sole goal of the Episcopal Church in America to get as far away from Scipture as possible? Already a liberal denomination, they have in the last three years ordained a gay bishop and now have elected a woman as the head of the church! I guess that this is evidence as to what happens when a church doesn't rely on scripture anymore...they just do what ever the HELL they want to. | | |
| Hi ya. Not real sure why I post. I think that you, William, are the only one who reads any of this, but oh well. Yesterday was great...I had the day off, so I slept in and then spent the afternoon at the library....awesome place. I meant only to stay about an hour, but didn't actually leave until about 3 and half hours later! It is amazing the resources that are available through that library! The research project is coming along, but still have got a lot of stuff to do. Later today, I will give my 5th tour...this one to a bunch of hooligan kids! Should be interesting...haven't given a tour to a group of students before. anyway. holla. PJ

| Whats up everyone! Its been so long since I have posted. I'm back in Cambridge for the summer at the Round Church as an intern! great fun. The programme is a little different this year as I am also giving tours of Cambridge and some of the colleges. Its pretty crazy to think that an American is giving tours of a city that is over 2000 years old! I really get a chance to interact with people from all over the world and share how Christianity has influenced our culture, that he is, in fact, still quite relevant, and is the only hope for the future. I just got back from the University Library...amazing place. I was able to get a readership there for the summer in order to do research on Adm. Charles Middleton, who was an evangelical Christian, influential with the slave trade, and the head of the navy during the battle of trafalgar! I had to get a letter of introduction from a prof in order to get access to the library...they are not exactly liberal with access. I spent a couple of hours there this morning exploring and looking up some books. They have every book published in England from c 1920 (plus a whole bunch more)...the place is HUGE. It is a rare treat for an undergraduate student to get access like this. felt like a child in a candy shop! Anyway, got to run, PJ

| today was a banner day! Woke up and went to the gun show with Letson. good times...Can't beat browsing through guns with a friend. Afterwards, we went to Swen's chinese restaurant. pretty good. Letson dropped me back off at my place cause he had to go do some studying. So, left alone to my own devices, I do what I always do: go shoot. Got packed up and did the 45 minute drive down to Centreville. I shot for almost three hours and only shot up 20 rounds of 40-65 and 20 rounds of .22. I took my time and enjoyed myself. Needless to say, I was the only one out there shooting a buffalo gun, so I got to explain the gun to quite a few people...that certainly boosted my ego. I divided up my shooting into two groups (for the 40-65)...each with 10 rounds. You have to clean the gun after 10 rounds for it to remain accurate because black powder cartridge guns are pretty dirty. The first 10 rounds, I shot pretty well...i shot a 2.3'' by 2.4'' grouping at a 100 yards, which is pretty respectable considering that it was really overcast a bit windy. It is amazing how much affect lighting has on shooting. From what I hear, you have to be able to shoot less than a 2'' by 2'' grouping at 100 yards to be able to compete and actually do well, so i am making progress, but still have a bit of work to do. I am going to try some new sight inserts next time. The second group of 10 was pretty bad...by that time, the cloud cover was at its worst and the wind had picked up a bit. Dave McCool, one of my roommates, gave me a package of 'sniper sub-sonic' .22 cartridges for my birthday, so I shot some of those today. They shot a pretty respectable grouping at hundred yards...about a 2.5 by 2.5 or so...but they drop like nobody's business. My browning a-bolt .22 is set at 100 yards with regular remington .22's, and these were dropping about 10 inches from that...right on the edge of the paper. One thing that was really cool was the report of the gun...it basically sounds like a pellet gun. Since they are sub-sonic, you don't get that crack. The cartridge is pretty unique...it has a big bullet and a small casing...I bet the bullet is twice the size of a regular one. holla. pj | | |
| Howdy, I am glad that the Crimson Tide is doing so well, but it is nice to have a weekend off! You know what I did tonight? NOTHING. I got pizza and watched TV. Sounds pretty lame, but I had to take advantage of the roommates all being out of town. Robert is visitng Tiff's parents, Jake went to Carson-Newman and then to the GA vs TN game, Mccool went home to get some stuff done, and Alex is in Memphis seeing his girl. But don't worry, this is going to be great weekend anyway: tommorow morning I am going to a gun show with one of my good friends, Ryan Letson. After that, I am going to go shoot my new gun down in Centerville. (I forgot to ask Letson, but he might go with me). Centerville is about 45 minutes away...so it turns into an all day affair...but they are opening the new range which is about 20 minutes outside of town, this week, so that will be good. I spent some serious cash today at Woods and Water...lets just say it was over 100 dollars... I hate spending money, but I had to buy a good gun rest for my new gun...the one that I have been using isn't all that good, and it wasn't worth using it with the 40-65. If you have been at our house much, then you have probably met Randall, our local drunk. This guy was in the air force for twenty years and now basically lives off his family and his pension from the military. It is really impossible to have a real conversation with him because he has fried his brain with alcohol and drugs. It is really sad. He came by tonight and we sat outside and talked for about 45 minutes. It just really struck me hard while we were talking that this guy is not a Christian and leads a really unhappy life....he is either always on something, or because he has always been on something in the past, can't really function. It also struck me how little I ever challenge people on their beliefs and that Randall could OD any day...and he wouldn't go to heaven (he doesn't believe in it at all). So, I grew a pair and asked him what he thought about death. We talked a while and I learned a lot of what he believes. He probably won't remember the convesation because he was chugging on a pint of Jack while we were talking. I really feel for him. What kind of hope is there in his life? none. I told him to keep coming around...and he said he enjoyed the conversation...I think it was one of the few he has had in recent memory that was actually about something, and not just centered on drugs and booze. He is also a WWII buff, so we share that in common. Well, I am hitting the sack. I am listening to the best mix CD in the world that I just put together from itunes from a gift certificate that my brother gave me for my birthday. The Lord has really blessed me with great friends and family. I am looking forward to spending some good one on one time with Letson tomorrow...he is sharp. Holla and "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it." 1 Thes 5:24-25
